ASFPM Certified Floodplain Manager Program
The Association of State Floodplain Managers has established a national program for certifying floodplain managers. This program recognizes continuing education and professional development that enhances the knowledge and performance of local, state, federal, and private-sector floodplain management professionals.
The role of the nation's floodplain managers is expanding due to increases in disaster losses, the emphasis on mitigation to alleviate the cycle of damage-rebuild-damage, and a recognized need for professionals to adequately address these issues. This certification program will lay the foundation for ensuring that highly qualified individuals are available to meet the challenge of breaking the damage cycle and stopping its negative drain on the nation's human, financial, and natural resources.
National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Review Course 2-day Course and CFM Exam*

Description: NJAFM is offering a two-day, in-person course to review the basics of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). This floodplain management training course will focus on the rules and regulations of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA’s) NFIP as the foundational knowledge needed for floodplain managers. The course will closely follow FEMA 480: NFIP Floodplain Management Requirements: A Study Guide and Desk Reference for Local Officials. The course will also include relevant newer guidance from FEMA not included in FEMA 480, as well as a general overview of higher standards required in the State of New Jersey by the New Jersey Flood Hazard Area Control Act.

** CFM Exam is optional, separate registration and fee are required to sit for the CFM exam. NOTE: The NFIP Review course is not a CFM Exam prep course; exam takers should not expect to pass the exam without additional study of materials found on the CFM Exam Preparation page.
CFM Exam
A paper version of the CFM Exam will be provided on July 26, 2022. If you plan on taking the CFM Exam, you must complete the CFM Exam Application materials and submit with fee payable to the Association of State Floodplain Managers, c/o Anita Larson, at ASFPM 8301 Excelsior Dr., Madison, WI 53719.
